The correct placement of a roof drip edge is on top of the roof s exterior cover directly between the sheathing and the fascia board which forms a drainage gap between the drip edge and the fascia board.
Mroof drips between the gutters and fascia.
Any rainwater or in sparodic areas then simply misses the gutter.
But what happens when your roof s gutters become worn out or cracked or clogged.
As a result the drainage improves water flow and protects the roof from potential water damage.
Without looking at the roof it seems that the water is missing the guttering because perhaps the previous owners may have had new fascias overlaid onto the old.
Other than being old and rusty they are working fine based on my obser.
A new roof is a huge project and one that has to be carefully balanced with the rest of the fixtures in and around your home.
Assuming the gutters have the correct slope the main reason for overflows is that the gutters are full of debris and need to be cleaned.
When water drips between the fascia and the gutters the problem could be a compromised drip edge but it s also possible the gutters are overflowing.
Water leaking between gutter and fascia when there is rain the water is expected to roll down the roof and into the gutters.
This then pushes the guttering out from the roof line by 9 17mm.
The gutters then direct the water to a downspout allowing the water to run down until it reaches the ground.
Why is a drip edge important.
I have a 30 year old house which i have owned for the last five years.
